Deriving Ten Gods

Purpose

Label every Heavenly Stem relative to the Day Master in the four pillars (including revealed hidden stems) with a Ten-God name, forming a readable relation layer. Overview: Ten Gods; quick lookup: Ten Gods Matrix.

Steps

  1. Take the Day Master: day-pillar Heavenly Stem. Confirm its Five Element and yin/yang (see Ten Heavenly Stems).
  2. Enumerate target stems: year, month, hour stems; and when needed, Earthly Branch Hidden Stems—main, middle, and residual qi.
  3. Assign broad class (generation/control) relative to Day Master Five Element:
    • Same as me → Peer / Rob Wealth class
    • I generate → Eating God / Hurting Officer class
    • I control → Wealth class
    • Controls me → Officer / Killings class
    • Generates me → Resource class
  4. Assign Direct vs Indirect (yin/yang): same yin/yang as Day Master → “Indirect” side (Peer, Eating God, Indirect Wealth, Seven Killings, Indirect Resource); opposite → “Direct” side (Rob Wealth, Hurting Officer, Direct Wealth, Direct Officer, Direct Resource)—Peer/Rob and Eating/Hurting naming follows the matrix.
  5. Mark position: the same Ten God may repeat across pillars; distinguish revealed vs hidden strength.
  6. Weight month command: the Ten God of the month branch’s main qi is often observed first as in-season information (not automatically the Useful God).

Example (algorithm sketch)

Suppose Day Master is Jia (yang Wood):

  • Sees Bing (yang Fire) → I generate, same yin/yang → Eating God
  • Sees Ding (yin Fire) → I generate, opposite yin/yang → Hurting Officer
  • Sees Xin (yin Metal) → Controls me, opposite yin/yang → Direct Officer
  • Sees Geng (yang Metal) → Controls me, same yin/yang → Seven Killings

Notes

  • Chart first, then Ten Gods; Ten Gods do not replace strength and pattern analysis.
  • When hidden stems do not surface, force and imagery are usually weaker than revealed stems.
  • Schools may differ on whether residual qi counts; output should be traceable.
