Concepts
- Eight trigramsQian, Dui, Li, Zhen, Xun, Kan, Gen, and Kun—the eight primary trigrams underpin double hexagrams and Liu Yao imagery; symbolic wording is in Qian, Kun, and related chapters.
- Line (Yao)The six stroke units of a hexagram, yin or yang; moving lines signal change. Line statements are in each Zhou Yi line chapter.
- Moving lineThe changing lines obtained in casting; they turn the original hexagram into the resulting one. Moving-line statements are in the matching Zhou Yi chapters.
- Shi and YingThe shi (self) and ying (response) lines mark the seeker versus the other party or setting; line wording follows the matching Zhou Yi chapters.
