Useful God

Definition

Useful God is a methodological concept: after seeing Day Master strength, month command, and overall structure, name the Five-Element or Ten-God direction most helpful for balancing that chart. It is a working hypothesis to test against luck cycles and annual pillars—not a mystical label.

Common selection paths (declare the school)

PathIdea
Support / restrainWeak body favors Resource and Peer; strong body favors drain, consume, and control
Climate adjustCold/hot and dry/damp first (e.g. winter births often favor Fire)
Bridge / mediateWhen two forces confront, take a middle element to harmonize
Disease and remedyFind the “disease” (too strong or too weak), then take the “remedy”

This library does not bind to one school’s formula; when stating a conclusion you must answer: which path is the basis?

Place in deduction

See Chart Deduction and Reading Order: Useful God comes after “structure scan” and before “luck cycle / annual pillar.”

Favorable, unfavorable, and hostile gods

Derived terms describe Ten Gods that support or break the Useful God. Names vary by school; prefer describing effect on the Useful God over piling jargon.

Pitfalls

  • Applying one mnemonic table to every chart.
  • Ignoring counterexamples from luck cycles after fixing Useful God.
  • Treating Useful God as a list of personality virtues.
